Creativeworld 2025: Artist Mike Stanko’s Splash of Color

Creativeworld 2025, a trade fair for the international hobby, craft, and art supplies industry, will be held February 7-11, 2025 in Frankfurt am Main, Germany. Ahead of this global event for the professional creative community, we wanted to give you a sneak peek at the FM Brush/Dynasty Brush trade show booth and explore the inspiration behind its colorful design!

This year we tapped artist Mike Stanko to paint a bright and eye-catching print that would be incorporated into the overarching booth aesthetic. An artist for over 30 years, Stanko lives in Long Island, NY, and has a distinct style for creating colorful and witty designs. His art can be found throughout the tri-state area, including the Empire State Building in New York City and the Elaine Benson Gallery in Bridgehampton, NY.

Q & A with Artist Mike Stanko

Please tell us about your inspiration behind the colors and subject of this painting for our Dynasty Brush/FM Brush Company booth at Creativeworld 2025.

I love painting nature, especially flowers, with big bold colors, giving me the opportunity to go wild- putting the “wild” in “wildflowers!”

Tell us about your process in creating this painting.

I chose to make a floral painting for this project, thinking that when it was blown up, it would appear as a massive splash of color, attracting attention to the FM display.

Which Dynasty Brushes and paints were instrumental in creating this piece?

For this particular painting, I used a few of the smaller brushes, which work so well for me. The various “Black Gold” brushes by Dynasty and the larger Black Gold #12 brush were great because they provided a nice, smooth texture!

Share with us how long you have been painting, and where you got your start.

I’ve been drawing since I was a child and took art classes in high school, but it was many years after that when I started painting regularly; it’s been over 30 years since I’ve been painting on canvas. I’m considered a “self-taught” artist because I haven’t had any formal training.

What is your favorite medium to work with and why?

I work primarily with acrylic paints, I like the way it applies, how fast it dries, and the easy cleanup with water.

Which recent project has meant the most to you and why?

In addition to this FM Brush project, I was recently commissioned by the Nassau County Executive to make a painting of the Theodore Roosevelt Executive Building in Mineola, the county’s headquarters, for Nassau’s 125th Anniversary celebration. Tweed Roosevelt, the great-grandson of our 26th President, was at the dedication. It was a proud moment!

Please tell us about the next project you’re working on.

Right now, I am preparing for a solo show at Swing the Teapot café in Floral Park, NY, while also working on a number of commissions for the holidays. After that, I plan to design a skateboard for The Christensen Gallery in Babylon, NY for an upcoming exhibit.
