New Year, New Paintings

Happy New Year!

We are only a few days in to 2017. Did you make any resolutions this year? Are you starting 2017 with a blank canvas--figuratively and/or literally?

I always make some sort of resolution. I love the feeling of a fresh start and I think there is always something that I could be working on to improve myself or my life. It is true that I do not always carry my resolution through the whole year, but I really do start off excited and strong--that has to count for something, right? 😇

This year I am focusing on reconnecting with my own creativity. For 15 years I have made a living painting projects for other people. It has always been a gift to be paid for drawing and painting as a scenic artist. It truly has been a joy to pass along the tricks of the trade to students and to paint larger-than-life scenery for loads theatrical productions, but I have really missed creating my own work. For years I have put all of my own painting and artistic vision on the backburner, often because painting all day doesn't really make me want to paint when I get home. This year I want to find my own artistic voice again. I don't know where this artistic adventure will take me but I am excited to get started. And you bet that my Dynasty brushes will be right there on the journey with me!

So, where to start? Well, I was given a lovely 3' x 3' stretched gallery wrapped canvas for Christmas so I guess I will be starting there! I was also given the book In the Company of Women by Grace Bonney and I think that will be a great companion and source of inspiration to this first project. Notice that I just said first--yes, I want this resolution to lay the groundwork for my creativity throughout 2017 and for years to come!

Readers: Have you made any art-related resolutions? If so, please share--let's support each other's new artistic efforts!
