A Fresh Start for the Dynasty Blog

painting the Plains in 2009

Hello, I am Karyn Meyer-Berthel and the new blogging voice of Dynasty Brush, Inc., a division of the FM Brush Company.  Let me tell you a little about myself and how the blog will unfold in the weeks and months to come.
I come from a long history of art and art materials.  A painter myself, I have had the privilege of working in many areas of the arts industry and with many different artists.  My fine art background started when I was quite young, taking private art lessons in my small hometown in South Carolina.  Although I didn’t major in art in college, I was an artist through and through, and returned to painting in graduate school.  Since then, I have spent time painting backdrops for theatre, working for art magazines publishers, producing painting videos and interning in the conservation department at the National Gallery of Art.  Through it all, I have continued to paint and sketch when I can.
I have formal training in realistic painting, pastels, drawing, watercolors and acrylics.  I enjoy working realistically quite a bit, especially figures.  However, my own work has evolved to mostly abstract acrylics at this point.  Sometimes on quite a large scale as you can see from the image above.
So now, I’m here with Dynasty, blogging and sharing with you all some interesting tidbits about brushes as well as fascinating artists and their thoughts about the importance of good brushes.

This blog will cover everything from brush making and brush quality to projects and painting techniques.  We’ll take a close look at many different artists and even hear from a few from time to time in guest blog posts.
If you have ideas or interests that you would like to see here, please let me know; I am always looking forward to hearing from you.

Keep Painting,
Karyn
